Sometimes you get lucky and give good advice and I certainly was on target when I advised everybody to bring an umbrella to the International Bowl Expo in Orlando June 22-27.

One afternoon in the Orange County Convention Center I was beginning to think Noah had built his Ark outside the arena because thunder seemed to shake the rafters and rain was pelting the roof with gusto.

Javier Diaz from Puerto Rico will join the Webber International University bowling team in August. Diaz is a current member of the Puerto Rican National Team, a member for the past 3 years.

In this capacity, he has competed in the American Zone Championships, the Central and Caribbean Championship (CONCECABOL) as well as the Caribbean Championship (COBOISCA). He will represent Puerto Rico in the Tournament of the Americas in July.

The Bowling Proprietors Association of America's outgoing President Joe Schumacker shared his enthusiasm for the new bowling campus being erected in Arlington, Texas.

He appealed to bowlers, proprietors and local/state leaders by saying, "You are the bridge. No one knows the legacy of bowling better than you. Look for opportunities to promote new forms of bowling."

Dick Evans (pictured with Tom Clark, right) of Daytona Beach, Fla. was elected president of the Bowling Writers Association of America by the board of directors following the 2008 annual meeting at the International Plaza Hotel in conjunction with Bowl Expo. Evans previously served as president in 1986 and 1987. The new term of office begins Aug. 1 and runs through July 31.

The top seeded players won the titles in Singles and Doubles in the 1st StriXe Hammer International at Cosmic Bowling Parque Arauco in Santiago de Chile.

The tournament, a Pan American Bowling Confederation (PABCON) ranking event, was the first international bowling competition in Chile since 16 years. Players from Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, USA and Chile competed in two divisions, Open and Classified. Women received 10 pins handicap each game.

The word is filtering out that a bionic bowler is being created by a mad scientist who promises he can clone different parts of great bowlers.

He has stolen PBA tapes and has been studying all the great bowlers in order to build the perfect bowler in time to enter him in the USBC Masters Tournament next year in Las Vegas.

Lynda Barnes, Double Oak, Texas, has been named the Bowling Writers Association of America (BWAA) Kegel Bowler of the Month for May.

Barnes won the inaugural Clash of Champions by defeating four-time Denny's PBA Tour titlist Sean Rash of Wichita, Kan. 258-237, to win the USBC event in front of more than 1,500 fans at Kansas City Municipal Auditorium.

Bowling finally made the 6 p.m. local news telecast in Orlando Monday night when the NBC affiliate announced that a 100-lane bowling center will be built at the Disney Sports Complex.

If you don't live in Florida you probably don't know too much about the Disney Sports Complex but like everything else Disney does it is first class.
