YOU can help Kelly Kulick win WSF's Sportswoman of the Year Award

2010TeamUSAKellyKulick_small.jpgBowling fans can help Kelly Kulick (l.) of Union, N.J., the first woman to capture a title in the 51-year history of the PBA Tour, win the Women's Sports Foundation's most prestigious award: Sportswoman of the Year. Kulick is one of 10 women nominated for the WSF's award for most outstanding individual performance by a woman athlete. Finalists will be voted on by The Women's Sports Foundation membership and through online voting. Fans can cast their votes until Aug. 31, 2010 at midnight Eastern.

Wayne Webb clinches PBA Senior Player of the Year award with win in Senior Jackson Open

2009PBAS08WayneWebb_small.jpgPBA Hall of Famer Wayne Webb (l.) capped the 2009-10 Senior Tour season with a win in the Senior Jackson Open Tuesday and he clinched Senior Player of the Year honors in the process. He joins fellow Hall of Famer Mark Roth as the only bowlers to win both the PBA Tour and Senior Tour Player of the Year awards. Webb, the 1980 PBA Tour Player of the Year, defeated Ray Johnson of Battle Creek, Mich., 211-194, in the championship match for his third Senior Tour title of the season and fifth of his career. Webb earned $8,000 for the win and Johnson $4,500 for second.

Walter Ray Williams Jr. leads field into match play finals at PBA Senior Jackson Open

2009PBAS08WayneWebb_small.jpgWalter Ray Williams Jr. (l.) continued to pace the field in the PBA Senior Jackson Open, maintaining the qualifying lead after the second round Monday with a 237.4 16-game average. The 115-player field was cut to the top 32 who will advance to match play Tuesday morning in the final event of the 2010 PBA Senior Tour season. Also advancing to match play were points leader Wayne Webb (r.) and Mark Williams, who also have a chance to win Player of the Year honors.

Going into the final event of the season, Williams is second in Senior Player of the Year points behind fellow Hall of Famer Wayne Webb (r.) by 12 points, but Webb struggled in the first round, finishing 40th with a 1,658 pinfall.

While the odds heavily favor Wayne Webb (r.) winning 2010 PBA Player of the Year honors heading into the Jackson Senior Open, which begins Sunday at Airport Lanes, the race isn't over.

Electronic device helps Roth achieve another milestone: he goes bowling

PBAEst1958_small.jpg"It's like a miracle," Denise Roth said after watching husband Mark Roth, a Professional Bowlers Association Hall of Famer and one of the greatest bowlers in history, walk unaided on the approach and throw a 12-pound bowling ball for the first time in more than 14 months. Since Roth, 59, suffered a massive stroke in late May 2009 that left the left side of his body paralyzed, he has refused to give up the fight to regain his life. His first public appearance following his stroke was at the GEICO Mark Roth Plastic Ball Championship in late March.

Tom Baker ends PBA Senior Tour win drought by capturing Senior Pepsi Open title

Senior Player of the Year race will be decided in season's final event in Jackson, Mich.

PBASeniorPotYTomBaker_small.jpgTom Baker (pictured) of King, N.C., captured his first Professional Bowlers Association Senior Tour title in three years Tuesday, defeating Dale Csuhta of Wadsworth, Ohio, 237-181, to win the PBA Senior Pepsi Open at Spare Time Lanes. Baker, a PBA Hall of Famer and four-time Senior Player of the Year, earned $8,000 and denied Csuhta's bid for his first Senior title. Csuhta earned $4,500 for second. The Senior Player of the Year race will be decided in season's final event in Jackson, Mich.

Mark Williams (l.), who won the Senior U.S. Open earlier this season, had a 1,831 eight-game pinfall (228.8 average) to hold a 25-pin lead over fellow Hall of Famer and Senior Tour rookie Walter Ray Williams Jr. (r.) of Ocala, Fla., in second with 1,806.

PBA stars visit "Petersen Classic" for a dose of humility

2010EBT05NormDuke4_small.jpgA handful of PBA players have visited the "home of humility," the Petersen Classic at AMF Hoffman Lanes in suburban Chicago, where averaging 200 for eight games across 16 lanes is a feat even the greatest players cherish. In 2009, PBA Hall of Famer Norm Duke (pictured) tried the Petersen Classic for the first time and posted a 1,448 total – a 181 average. In late July, he returned and missed the magical 200 average milestone by a single pin, shooting 1,599 with a 171 final game.

Henry, at age 62, upset three consecutive favored players. Besides Kauble Henry upset PBA Hall of Famers Walter Ray Williams Jr. and Wayne Webb.

Tom Baker maintains lead after second round in PBA Senior Lake County Indiana Open

Baker, a four-time Senior Player of the Year, had a 3,585 16-game pinfall after two rounds to hold a 69-pin lead over fellow Hall of Famer and leading 2010 Senior Player of the Year contender Wayne Webb (r.) of Columbus, Ohio, in second with 3,519.

Tom Baker sets the pace in PBA Senior Lake County Indiana Open

Four-time PBA Senior Player of the Year leads first round with 230 average

PBASeniorPotYTomBaker_small.jpgProfessional Bowlers Association Hall of Famer Tom Baker (pictured) averaged 230 for eight games to take the first round lead in the PBA Senior Lake County Indiana Open at Olympia Lanes Tuesday. Baker had a 1,840 eight-game pinfall with games of 226, 193, 244, 243, 237, 228, 257 and 212 to lead Conn Casey of Canada in second with a 1,804 total. The 117-player field returns Wednesday for another eight-game block to cut to the top 32 players for match play on Thursday.

PBA stars headed to Munich for WTBA Men's World Championships

Chris Barnes (l.), Wes Malott (r.), Bill O'Neill, Tommy Jones, Rhino Page and Patrick Allen will compete for Singles, Doubles, Trios, five-man Team, All-Events and Masters medals against competitors from 67 other countries.

2010PBAS05MarkWilliams_small.jpgWhen the 2010 Professional Bowlers Association Senior Tour season resumes with the Senior Lake County Indiana Open Aug. 9-12 at Olympia Lanes in Hammond, Ind., a third consecutive title there for two-time defending champion Mark Williams (pictured) will put him in contention for 2010 Senior Player of the Year honors. "I think I'm going to have to win at least another tournament to be in contention but I like my chances (at Olympia Lanes) because in all the times I've bowled there I've never really had a bad tournament," said the PBA Hall of Famer.

Pikeville College's Kim Yioulos earns 2010 PBA Billy Welu Scholarship Award

KimYioulos_2010BillyWeluAward_small.jpgKim Yioulos (pictured), a junior at Pikeville (Ky.) College and a member of Junior Team USA, has been named the recipient of the 2010 Billy Welu Scholarship by the Professional Bowlers Association. The $1,000 scholarship recognizes exemplary qualities in college students who compete in the sport of bowling. A PBA Charter Member, the late Billy Welu won the BPAA All Star in 1959 before winning the 1964 and '65 USBC Masters events. Welu was inducted into both the PBA and USBC Halls of Fame in 1975.

Steven Black makes it three-out-of-four in joint PBA Western Regional

200910PBAStevenBlack_small.jpgIn a joint PBA Northwest/West Regional event in Reno, Nev., on July 25, Steven Black (pictured) of Phoenix won for his third time in the last four events in the Sands Regency Casino Summer Classic at High Sierra Lanes. Black, who won $2,000, defeated Curtis Woods Jr. of Santa Rosa, Calif., 184-179, for his fifth career PBA regional title. Bryon Smith of Roseburg, Ore., the 2002 USBC Masters champ, finished third. Exempt players Dave Arnold, Dublin, Calif., and Chris Warren, Grants Pass, Ore., finished fourth and ninth, respectively.

Chris Barnes wins joint "Super Regional"; Joe Ciccone picks up 12th regional title

Barnes picked up his 20th career PBA Regional title, winning the PBA Southwest/Midwest Region Jonesboro Super Regional at Jonesboro Bowling Center. Ciccone won his 12th PBA Regional title in the PBA Central Region in the PBA Central Region Dan Kondas Memorial Open.
