Björn Einar Rudshagen and Line Berg Almestrand (l-r) walked away the winners in the men's and women's division of the 2010 Evje Open International which ended Sunday at Evje Bowling in Evje, Norway.

The eventual winners took different routes to the title. Both men's and women's finals were an all-Norwegian affair.

2010EvjeSveinRogerOlsen.jpgRudshagen, who led the 70-player men's field in qualifying with 2213 pinfall total and an average of 245.89 for nine games, earned the No. 3 seed for the five-player stepladder finals with a 670 3-game series in men's Round 3.

The men's qualifying was highlighted by a 300 game from John Aarre. Aarre was eliminated in Round 1. Svein Roger Olsen (pictured right) posted a 299 in Round 2 before he was eliminated in Round 3.

2010EvjeMadsSandbakken.jpgIn a high-scoring opening round, Rudshagen (245) topped defending champion Petter Hansen (238) and Martin Olsen (233) to advance to the semifinal match. Rudshagen edged last year's runner-up, Mads Sandbækken (left), by two pins, 194-194 for the right to bowl top seeded Frode Olaussen for the title.

The top seed in Evje must be defeated twice to win the title. Rudshagen flew past Olaussen in the first game, 247-195, to force the decider. In a close second game, Rudshagen wrapped up the title with a 216-203 win to earn the 3.660 Euro top prize.

2010EvjeJeanettHaavelmoenJohansen.jpgOlaussen, who finished fourth in 2009, got 1.830 Euro for second place, Sandbækken took 1.220 Euro for third and Hansen and Olsen each received 549 Euro for fourth and fifth place.

Line Berg Almestrand took a shorter route to the women's title. Almestrand finished second to Jeanett Haavelmoen Johansen (right, 1979, 219.89 ave.) in qualifying with 1963 9-game total and an average of 218.11, the used a 299 game in the semifinal to earn the No. 1 seed for the stepladder finals with a 743 3-game series ( 247.67).

2010EvjeAndreaEHansen.jpgIn the opening shootout match, No. 4 seeded Andrea E. Hansen, who had a 300 game in qualifying, topped No. 5 Heidi Thorstensen in a roll-off after a 205-205 tie. No. 3 Monica Lislien was eliminated behind a 182 game.

In a re-match of last year's semifinal, 2009 runner-up Ann Louise Haugen Andersen, seeded second, ousted Hansen, 258-210, to bowl Almestrand for the title.

Deja-vu for Andersen, who fell to PBA super star Kelly Kulick in last year's title match, as Almestrand made quick work and cruised to the title with a 237-191 win.

Almestrand pocketed 1.830 Euro for first place, Andersen got 915 Euro for second place, Hansen received 610 Euro for third place while Thorstensen and Lislien garnered 305 Euro apiece for fourth and fifth place.

The 2010 Evje Open drew 70 men and 19 women who bowled at least three 3-game qualifying series. The top 20 men and the top 10 women with the highest 9-game total advanced to the finals.

In the men's Final Round 1, qualifiers 11-20 bowled three games from scratch. The top 5 advanced to the second round and met qualifiers 6-10 in another three-game round. The top 5 and qualifiers 1-5 determined the five players, who bowled for the title in a stepladder final.
