Ulf Bolleby wins his first EBT title in Ebonite International Luxembourg Open

Nickel, Joris achieve perfection; Planchard wins women's ranking

Ulf Bolleby (pictured left), Sweden, defeated Mats Maggi (right), Belgium, 439 to 384, to win his first European Bowling Tour title in the Ebonite International Luxembourg Open and the 4.000 Euro top prize Sunday afternoon, March 21st, at X-Treme Bowling & Billard in Foetz, Luxembourg. In the title match over two games total pinfall, Bolleby took a 41-pin lead after the first game (202-161) and cruised to victory with a 237-223 win in the second game.
Bolleby topped Nico Joris, Belgium, in the semifinal, 436-426, while Maggi flew past No. 2 seed Karsten Aust, Germany, 458-377. Maggi pocketed 2.500 Euro for second place, Aust and Joris received 1.500 Euro each for third and 4th place.

Marilyn Planchard, France, who fell to Maggi in the Round of 8, 459-379, finished fifth en route to win the women's ranking in Luxembourg. No. 1 seed Gery Verbruggen, Belgium, and Round One leader Jens Nickel (right), Germany, were upset victims in the Round of 32, Planchard was the sole woman, who advanced to the Round of 16.
Joris (left) posted the second 300 game of the tournament (Nickel had the first in Final Round One), in the second game of his Round of 16 match against Manuel Mrosek, Germany, to win the match by 3 pins, 505-502.
The Ebonite International Luxembourg Open was held from March 16-21, 2010 at 20-laner X-Treme Bowling & Billard in Foetz, Luxembourg offering total prize fund of 30.000 Euro with 4.000 Euro going to the winner. The tournament was the sixth stop of the 2010 European Bowling Tour and one of the Tour's "Satellite" tournaments. Since the Ankara Open and the Austria Challenge have been cancelled, the 2010 EBT Tour consists of 19 events - 2 EBT Platinum tournament (formerly Premier), 6 EBT Gold tournaments (formerly Major), 7 EBT Silver tournaments (formerly Challenger) and 4 EBT Satellite tournaments (new category).

U.S. Open champion Bill O'Neill (left), United States, was the defending champion. O'Neill defeated Francois Louw, South Africa, 504-452, in Oct. 2009 to win his first EBT title. Nicole Sanders (right), Netherlands, finished third last year to win the women's ranking. Qualifying ran from Monday, March 15 through Saturday March 20, with the final qualifying squad 13 scheduled for 8 p.m. and ended with the ultimate one-game Desperado Squad slated for 11.30 p.m. CET.
The Ebonite International Luxembourg Open was contested on a 43 feet long lane pattern called Sexy Curve to Moulin Rouge. A total of 50 players - the top 44 from the qualifying (six games) and top 6 from the Desperado Squad - qualified for the finals on Sunday, March 21. The top 14 players received one bye and will seeded 1-14 in Round 2.
The remaining 36 players bowled 6 games starting from scratch. The top 18, seeded 15th-32nd, met the top 14 qualifiers in single-elimination matches over two games total pinfall. The highest seed bowled the lowest seed, the second highest bowled the second lowest, etc.
The single-elimination finals stared with the Round of 32. The field was cut to 16, 8, 4 and then 2 players who bowled for the title and 4.000 Euro top prize.
