Widell will retire after 25 years serving in international bowling.

Widell was elected to the Presidium of the ETBF (formerly the European Zone) in the year 1985. From 1995 to 2003, Widell was appointed secretary general by two World Tenpin Bowling Association Presidents, Kyohei Akagi, Japan and Dr. Ponkuchamy Satkuna Nathan, Malaysia.

In 1995 Widell also accepted the offer by Ophelders to become the ETBF Secretary General. "I am sure all member federations have never regretted that," wrote Ophelders.

An old era ends and a new era begins. Valgeir Gudbjartsson (left), Iceland, has been appointed to the position of Secretary General of ETBF starting March 1st, 2010.

Gudbjartsson has been a member of the ETBF Presidium since 2005, a position he will continue to hold as well as his position as a member of the ETBF Tournament Committee.
