Reigning Men's and Women's European Team Champion becomes first European team to train at the ITRC
With the top training tools and evaluation systems in the world, the International Training and Research Center has attracted national teams from across the globe. Now one of Europe's leading bowling programs has joined the growing list of nations using the ITRC as a temporary training home. Denmark is the reigning men's and women's European team champion and both teams decided to make the trip to Arlington, Texas. They are the first European team to train at the ITRC.
Hank Boomershine (l.) and Joe Slowinski (r.) have been awarded Gold level coaching status after successfully completing certification requirements through the United States Bowling Congress Coaching Certification and Development department. Gold level is the highest certification a coach can achieve through USBC. USBC recently conducted coaching recertification and, with the addition of Boomershine and Slowinski, there now are 16 USBC Gold coaches worldwide.
USBC Gold coach Michael Nyitray (pictured) of Parkland, Fla., has been named the United States Olympic Committee 2010 Developmental Coach of the Year, giving the sport of bowling its first national coaching award from USOC. U.S. Olympic and Pan American sports organizations selected their 2010 Coaches of the Year as part of the USOC Coach of the Year Recognition Program. The finalists in each category were chosen by a panel of coaching and sport education professionals.
The chance for bowlers to hone their skills on the lanes at the International Training and Research Center located at the International Bowling Campus in Arlington, Texas, and have the world-class ITRC staff assist them with their equipment now is available to United States Bowling Congress members through the ITRC Membership Program. Three levels currently are offered through the ITRC Membership Program.

The International Bowling Campus (IBC) Youth Development team will facilitate dozens of coaching seminars across the nation later this year designed to teach parents and volunteers basic bowling coaching skills. The seminars are part of a YES Fund initiative to develop a new mainstream competition model for youth bowling. The seminars will be open to volunteers from Bowling Proprietors' Association of America (BPAA) member centers or United States Bowling Congress (USBC) associations at no cost.
United States Bowling Congress Sport Bowling member Mike Reed (pictured) of Honeoye, N.Y., became the first bowler to win an expenses-paid trip to the International Training and Research Center in the Team USA Fantasy Camp contest. In a fan vote on BOWL.com, Reed topped three other finalists to win the trip by totaling 6,102 votes. Terrell Peterson of Killeen, Texas, finished with 4,219 votes, Aaron Koch of Grand Rapids, Mich., had 913 votes and Jeffrey Owens of Ithaca, N.Y., had 430 votes.
The U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) announced that Nicholas Bohanan, the Sports Performance Specialist for the United States Bowling Congress, and Michael Nyitray, a USBC Gold coach who has received multiple national coaching awards, are finalists for the 2011 USOC Coach of the Year awards. U.S. Olympic and Pan American sports organizations selected their 2010 Coaches of the Year as part of the USOC Coach of the Year Recognition Program. The winners in each category will be announced on June 24.
USBC Hall of Famer Carolyn Dorin-Ballard of Keller, Texas, enjoyed a long and successful career on the bowling lanes and now will bring her experience and knowledge to the organization as the USBC Director of Coaching. A USBC Board member and four-time Team USA member, Dorin-Ballard will shift roles and start in her new position March 1. The 46-year-old USBC Silver coach most recently served as a member of Brunswick's professional teaching staff,.
The United States Bowling Congress launched a new program Tuesday to begin re-certifying coaches and introduced a continuing education program to help keep them informed about the latest technology and coaching techniques.
The program will require USBC Gold, Silver and Bronze coaches who were certified prior to Jan. 1, 2006 to take an online certification test to maintain their status. Level I and II coaches do not have to be re-certified.
Steve Lawson of Mahomet, Ill., who has been involved in collegiate and youth bowling for more than three decades, has been named the 2011 USBC Kerm Helmer Horizon Award recipient by the USBC Youth Committee. The award is named for the longtime bowling coach at Erie Community College to recognize leaders in the youth bowling community who have displayed the courage, determination and ability to develop far-reaching programs of national scope that provide fun and exciting opportunities.
Marty Jones of Providence, R.I., a USBC Bronze coach who works in the Rhode Island Youth Bowling programs, has been selected to receive the 2011 United States Bowling Congress David Dahms Coach of the Year Award by the USBC Youth Committee. The award annually recognizes a USBC-certified coach who has
been actively involved in a USBC Youth program and has demonstrated an
outstanding commitment to coaching, sportsmanship and knowledge of USBC
Youth rules for the last seven or more years.
Before finding unprecedented success at major international events this summer, several teams spent quality time training at the International Training and Research Center. Teams from the Dominican Republic and Singapore found success in major events after training at the ITRC, located at the International Bowling Campus in Arlington. The ITRC is a joint venture of the United States Bowling Congress and the Bowling Proprietors Association of America.
USBC Coaching will launch a new program early next year to re-certify coaches and also will begin a requisite continuing education program to keep bowling coaches up to date on the latest technology and coaching techniques. The program will require USBC Gold, Silver and Bronze coaches who were certified prior to Jan. 1, 2006 to take an online certification test by Aug. 1, 2011 to maintain their status. Level I coaches do not have to be re-certified.
The USBC furthered its partnership with the Italian Sport Bowling Federation (FISB) this month when 40 coaches attended bronze-level coaching certification courses in the cities of Asti, Bologna and Rome. The courses were open to competitive bowlers looking to broaden their knowledge of the sport as well as Italian bowling instructors and FISB members wishing to earn Bronze-level certification. USBC Director of International Relations Bill Hoffman teamed with

Longtime bowling coach, writer and industry advocate John Jowdy has been selected as the 2010 inductee into the Bowling Coaches Hall of Fame in recognition of his superior coaching contributions to the sport. The Bowling Coaches Hall of Fame committee, reviewed nearly a dozen nominations and supporting documents before selecting Jowdy on the first ballot. The Bowling Coaches Hall of Fame has a
presence in the new International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame
located at the International Bowling Campus in Arlington, Texas.
Bowling's global push to someday attain the Olympic spotlight has found an ally in French national bowling team head coach Eric Courault.In a whirlwind travel schedule that demonstrated Courault's tireless
commitment to strengthening the Tenpin Bowling Association of France,
Courault recently visited the International Training and Research Center
in Arlington, Texas. If it seems to those who have worked with Courault that the man never
rests, there is a reason for that.
The Bowling Coaches Hall of Fame task force announces nominations are being accepted for any bowling coaches who are considered viable candidates for induction in the Bowling Coaches Hall of Fame Class of 2010. Nominations forms are available at STESkillsCenter.com; BPAA.com, IBPSIA.com and Bowl.com (under Coaching). Nominees or representatives for that nominee may complete and return the Bowling Coaches Hall of Fame application to the STE Skills Center in Arlington, Texas by the April 16th deadline.

championship events includes Finland, Sweden, Canada, Malaysia,
Singapore and others. But there is a European nation which, according
to some of the most respected coaches in the sport today, may soon
count itself among the world's most formidable bowling talents: France.
With more and more bowlers taking to the lanes with two hands like Australian sensation Jason Belmonte, the coaches at USBC have recognized the need to train other coaches to be able to help these players and facilitate their growth and improvement. USBC Coaching recently hosted its first three-hour class with a curriculum designed entirely around the two-handed game. The class was held in conjunction with The Next Revolution event at AMF Euless Lanes near Dallas on Nov. 8.
After four events in four different cities, The Next Revolution, a USBC event, came to an exciting close at AMF Euless Lanes near Dallas on Sunday. The two-weekend, whirlwind tour gave more than 500 bowlers and fans an up-close look at Australian superstar Jason Belmonte (pictured), the world's premier two-handed bowler. The Next Revolution was created to bring exposure to the two-handed style that is sweeping the globe as well as give participants a chance to revolutionize their own games.
