There's no experience like competing on the lanes at the National Bowling Stadium, and more than 30,000 bowlers already are scheduled to be in Reno, Nev., for the 2012 USBC Women's Championships. Those who have not yet entered still have time to be part of the action as the entry deadline has been extended to April 1. There are even some weekend spots available for the event, which begins April 14 and will run for 86 consecutive days, concluding July 8.

Local star Michelle Feldman (r.) of Auburn, N.Y., headlined the list of champions at the 2011 United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships, which ended its 88-day run at the Oncenter Convention Center on July 3. The 35-year-old right-hander claimed the one USBC Women's Championships title that has eluded her during her career as she teamed with USBC Hall of Famer Aleta Sill (l.) of Livonia, Mich., to win this year's Scratch Doubles title with a 1,462 total.
Danell Ingle (r.) of Moore, Okla., has only been bowling competitively since November, so she never planned on competing at the 2011 USBC Women's Championships. But her aunt, Katheryn Stites (l.) of Wilburton, Okla., the same person who introduced her to the idea of seriously pursuing the sport, also convinced her to test her new bowling skills at the Oncenter Convention Center in Syracuse, N.Y., this week. The 39-year-old right-hander stepped up to the task, though she really wasn't sure what to expect on the tournament lanes.
Dorothy Sternberg (pictured) of Indianapolis received a standing ovation from her bowling peers at the Oncenter Convention Center as she was recognized for 55 years of participation at the USBC Women's Championships on June 11. The 90-year-old right-hander received a medallion necklace and 55-year plaque as well as a bouquet of flowers from Tournament Manager Eric Pierson. She is one of five women who have reached the 55-year mark in the 92-year history of the event.
Young's Welding 1 of Chanute, Kan. (pictured), vaulted into first place in Ruby Team, and Estelle Dixon and Maude Chattam of Calhoun, Ga., took the lead in Sapphire Doubles at the USBC Women's Championships at the Oncenter Convention Center in Syracuse, N.Y., this week. Shannon Sutton of Alta, Iowa, rolled a 1,724 scratch all-events total and an additional 14 pins per game lifted her into the top spot in Ruby All-Events with a 1,850 handicap total.
Beth Reese (pictured) of Haymarket, Va., is a riveting storyteller when swapping tales of her adventures while competing at the USBC Women's Championships, but she also is one impressive bowler, as she proved this week at the Oncenter Convention Center. Reese wrapped up her stay in Syracuse with a games of 256, 225 and 235 for a 716 scratch singles series, and an additional 26 pins of handicap per game helped her into third place in Diamond Singles with 794.

(pictured), took the lead in the team event and likes its chances of hoisting a blue-stoned trophy. The group put together games of 859, 812 and 818 for a 2,489 scratch total at the Oncenter Convention Center in Syracuse, N.Y., and an additional 23 pins of handicap per game helped them to a 2,558 overall total.
Mini Tvaska (center) of St. Petersburg, Fla., extended her own participation record at the USBC Women's Championships when she made her 65th consecutive tournament appearance this week. The 93-year-old tournament veteran arrived at Oncenter Convention Center sporting bright yellow fingernails and wished she could've found a hat to match. The yellow theme was in support of her team, The Sunshine Gals (pictured).

Patti Kroll of Big Lake, Minn., rolled games of 225, 234 and 173 for a 632 scratch series, and an additional 14 pins of handicap per game helped her into the top spot in Ruby Singles with a 674 handicap series May 7. Fran Beckjorden of Shoreview, Minn., previously held the lead with 657.

Minino fired games of 268, 279 and 259 for a career-high scratch series of 806 and catapulted the pair to the top of the leaderboard May 2. Manna contributed a 612 series for a 1,418 scratch effort, and an additional 38 pins of handicap per game helped them to a 1,532 total.

With the glitz and glamour of an opening night worthy of Broadway, the curtain was raised on the 2011 USBC Women's Championships at the Oncenter Convention Center ion April 7. Twinkling scoreboard lights and pulsating music welcomed the first of nearly 6,000 teams during the official opening ceremonies. The ribbon cutting featuried New York's Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney (c.), USBC Executive Director Stu Upson (l.) and USBC President Darlene Baker (r.).

During the next five weeks, The Oncenter Convention Center in Syracuse, N.Y., will be transformed into a state-of-the-art 48-lane bowling facility that will be the home of the 2011 USBC Women's Championships from April 7-July 3. On Monday, Feb. 21, crews will start bringing in more than 30 truckloads of materials needed to construct the venue. The 2011 Women's Championships is expected to bring more than 30,000 bowlers to Syracuse during its 88-day run.
Tournament season is right around the corner, and it's not too late to be part of the action at the 2011 United States Bowling Congress Women's and Open Championships. The entry deadline for the USBC Women's Championships has been extended to March 1, while USBC Open Championships competitors now will have until March 4 to submit their entries.

The USBC Open Championships is the can't-miss event for tens of thousands of bowlers each year, and there's still time to be a part of the historic 2011 tournament. The 2010 United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships featured a fresh look and a brand new format, and the event earned national recognition with a 2010 SportsTravel Award from SportsTravel magazine. The 2010 USBC Women's Championships was named the Best Amateur Sports Event Series or Circuit.
For the first time in history, the United States Bowling Congress will bring the USBC Open and Women's Championships to the same city simultaneously when Reno, Nev., hosts both events in 2013 and 2014. Plans call for the Open Championships to be held in the National Bowling Stadium, while the Women's Championships will take place in a custom-built arena inside the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. USBC plans to develop additional events that will coincide with the two
main tournaments in Reno.
With the 2010 USBC Women's Championships now complete, it is time to teardown the one-of-a-kind 48-lane bowling facility (pictured) that was constructed inside of the El Paso Convention and Performing Arts Center in January. Since March 27, more than 30,000 bowlers made their way to Sun City, and now that the event is over, USBC and Habitat for Humanity - El Paso will team up to return the venue to its pre-tournament condition.

The 31-year-old right-hander started singles with a pair of 246 games before rolling 12 consecutive strikes to finish with a 792 scratch series. She received an additional 22 pins of handicap per game, which gave her a final score of 858. Tennelle Milligan of Arlington, Texas, previously held the scratch lead with 779.
