The women will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles, Trios, 5-player Team, All Events and Masters from July 24 through Aug. 3, 2009 on 60 lanes, specially constructed inside the Cashman Center. Hong Kong's boys and Korean girls strike gold in Team event at 1st Asian Youth Games

2009AYGKoreaGirls_small.jpgThe boys team from Hong Kong and the girls team from Korea (pictured left) captured the gold medals in the 4-player Team event in the 1st Asian Youth Games at Orchid Bowl, Singapore. Wong Kwan Yuen, Tsang Yin Ki, Tse Chung Yin and Mak Cheuk Yin posted six games between 905 and 774 to win the boys title with 4971 pinfall total and an average of 207.13. In the girls division, Koreans Oh Nu-Ri, Yoo Ka-Hee, Hong Hae-Ni and Sim Ui-Jin had six games between 874 and 795 to lead the nine countries with 4967 and an average of 206.96.

California bowler rolls 300 game at USBC Women's Championships

2009USBCWCLindsyBonifacini_small.jpgLindsy Bonifacini of San Diego left her mark on the leaderboard and the record books at the USBC Women's Championships on Thursday. The 27-year-old right-hander became the ninth woman in the 90-year history of the event, and first this year, to roll a 300 game on the tournament lanes. After beginning her doubles competition with a 203 game, Bonifacini rattled off 12 consecutive strikes for the tournament's first perfect game since Alicia Kellow of Louisville, Ky., achieved the milestone at the 2005 event in Tulsa, Okla.

96-year-old bowler makes first trip to USBC Open Championships

2009USBCOCFredFinkeldei_small.jpgAt 96 years old, there probably isn't much that Fred Finkeldei of Kansas City, Mo., hasn't done, but this week, he got to try something new as he made his first trip to the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships. Finkeldei has been an avid bowler for more than 30 years, still bowls in six leagues in the winter and two in the summer and averages in the 180s, but it took a special invitation to get him to test his skills on bowling's biggest stage.

Singapore and Korea claim Doubles titles at 1st Asian Youth Games

Choi Kyung-Hwan and Hwang Dong-Jun won the Boys Doubles to capture the first gold medal of the games for Korea. Thailand and Korea (girls) and Japan and Singapore (boys) earned the silver and bronze medals, resp.

Televised perfect games to pay up to $100,000 at U.S. Women's Open

WomensUSOpenLogo_small.jpgThe 12 players who advance to the television finals of the 2009 U.S. Women's Open, a United States Bowling Congress event, will have the opportunity to earn a significant cash bonus if they shoot a perfect game on television. Any of the 12 bowlers who shoot a 300 game during the five television shows will earn a cash bonus. Perfect games during the championship round (final show) will be worth $100,000 each while 300 games during the first four shows will pay $25,000 each.

PBA offers convenient entry process for World Series of Bowling

PBAWSOBLogo_small.jpgThe inaugural Professional Bowlers Association World Series of Bowling (WSOB) is just about a month away and bowlers can take advantage of a convenient entry process to get into the tournament field. The WSOB gets underway with the PBA Motor City Open at Taylor Lanes in Taylor, Mich., from Aug. 2-6. The remaining six World Series of Bowling events, including the return of the PBA Women's Series presented by BOWL.COM, and a revamped PBA Senior World Championship will be held at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Mich.

PBA launches new and improved Xtra Frame, the Official Video Service of the PBA

Bowling fans can take advantage of free seven-day trial

Bowling fans can visit www.pba.com/xtraframe to sign up and take advantage of a free seven-day trial beginning the week of July 7 (must sign up by July 21). As part of programming during the free trial, Xtra Frame will broadcast the 2009 Japan Cup won by Patrick Allen and featuring a 300 game by Rhino Page in the semifinal match.

Each day there will be two clinics of approximately 3.5 hours each with the majority of time spent on the lanes and some classroom instruction. Edwards will be assisted by USBC Silver level coach Thomas Tybl.

Singapore wins first gold medal in Girls Singles at 1st Asian Youth Games

2009AYGNewHuiFen_small.jpgNew Hui Fen (pictured) from the host country of Singapore cruised to victory in the Girls Singles in the 1st Asian Youth Games bowling competition Wednesday at Orchid Bowl, Singapore. Trailing Hui Fen by 45 pins to earn the silver medal was Japan's Misaki Mukotani with Oh Nu-Ri, Korea, in third. On the boys' side, Michael Mak from Hong Kong claimed the gold medal with 1396. Koreans Park Ji-Soo and Hwang Dong-Jun earned silver and bronze.

Team All-Events champions won't repeat at USBC Open Championships

2009USBCOCFoxBowl2_small.jpgMichael Nape of Yorkville, Ill., has enjoyed a successful career at the USBC Open Championships, and in 2008, he finally got the one thing that eluded him for 20 years- a title on the tournament lanes. The 40-year-old right-hander helped Fox Bowl 2 of Wheaton, Ill., to the Team All-Events crown last year in Albuquerque, N.M., and this week, the group took to the lanes at Cashman Center to put that title on the line.

ESPN to air seven GEICO PBA Team Shootout matches this Sunday

Team GEICO, with Lumber Liquidators Professional Bowlers Association Tour stars Chris Barnes, Patrick Allen, Mike Wolfe, Mika Koivuniemi, reigning Player of the Year Wes Malott and Brad Angelo, has taken a 2-1 lead after four round-robin matches in the made-for-TV team tournament.

Nepomuceno rolled games of 257, 269 and 289. According to Kenneth Gavino, marketing manager of AMF Puyat which has been sponsoring the local eliminations for the past 40 years, Nepomuceno's feat is a new World Cup qualifying record. The 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup will be held from Nov. 14-21, 2009 at Melaka International Bowling Center in Melaka, Malaysia.

Bogota will host PABCON Youth Championships

2009PYCLogo_small.jpgBogota, Colombia will host the Pan American Bowling Confederation Youth Championships from July 3-12, 2009. 20 countries from North, Central and South America are expected to attend. The event will be conducted at the Sport Complex Salitre in two age groups – under 16 and under 20. Canada will be represented in the under 20 year age division only. Competition will consist of Team, Doubles and Singles events plus a Masters match play event for the top 12 boys and girls All Events finishers.

Junior Team USA looks to repeat success at PABCON Youth Championships in Colombia

Junior Team USA claimed 10 of a possible 12 gold medals (pictured is Singles champion Geoffrey Young), dominating last year's PABCON Youth Championships in San Salvador, El Salvador. This year, the team travels to Bogota, Colombia, starting this weekend to take on a field of the top junior bowlers from the American Zone.
